Princess Margaret Hospital for Children Foundation

 This organisation accepts volunteer labour

Our mission is "working in partnership with the community to provide a standard of excellence in children's health care. Striving to improve the quality of life for the sick and injured children of our society, and assisting to provide them with a better future."

Over a quarter of a million children are treated at PMH every year, equating to three out of every four WA families utilising the hospital's service.

PMH Foundation is the fundraising arm of the state's only children's hospital and is committed to raising funds to provide the best equipment, important research and excellence in care and rehabilitation.

Donations have helped build a special care nursery, improve equipment in the burns, craniofacial and ear nose and throat units, build the fantastic play area known as the Megazone, update anaesthetic equipment, improve the monitoring systems in the Intensive Care Unit and, more importantly, help WA youngsters to better health.

Each year the Foundation selects an area of the hospital to focus its fundraising efforts on. In 2002, the foundation is striving to raise $1 million to help fund the creation of the new Children's Rehabilitation Centre in the hospital's existing Hay Street Building.

The redevelopment will bring all facets of paediatric rehabilitation together under one roof, creating an easy access total care facility for our state's disabled children.

With modern medical advancements and years of wear and tear the hospital's once state-of-the-art facilities can no longer offer our disabled kids the kind of support they need and deserve.

The centre will play a vital role in the treatment of patients suffering from conditions such as spina bifida, spinal dystfunction, brain injury and epilepsy.

The completed facility will house:

* Occupational Therapy
* Physiotherapy
* Paediatric Rehabilitation Medicine
* The PMH School
* Social Work Unit
* Staff Development Centre
* Genetics Unit
* Adolescent Medicine Department

The central aim of the redevelopment is to simplify and improve the treatment of patients and reduce the time they and their families need to spend at the hospital. This will be achieved with the inclusion of:

* a large waiting and play area
* a new counselling facility
* Consulting rooms with built-in observation areas to allow multidisciplinary teams to assess a patient simultaneously, saving the time of both patient and medical staff.
* A sophisticated electronic booking system capable of co-ordinating team bookings and avoiding unnecessary duplicate appointments.

Thank you for your kind donation.
