Prevent Blindness Foundation
The Prevent Blindness Foundation provides clinical eye care, educates all levels of eye health care providers, conducts research to find new ways to save sight, and stimulates awareness of eye health in the community.
Professor Lawrence Hirst, Executive Director of the Foundation, founded the Queensland Eye Bank in 1987. The Eye Bank provides over 500 corneas annually for transplant and has no waiting list.
The Foundation receives no government funding, but has relied on the community to continue providing services since 1965.
