Motor Neurone Disease Association of Victoria Inc
The Motor Neurone Disease Association of Victoria provides support to people living with MND. MND is a progressive degenerative neurological disease with average life expectancy of 27 months after diagnosis.
The Association supports over 400 peple diagnosed with MND each year, and has up to 270 clients at any point in time. Over 100 people register with the Association diagnosed with MND each year.
MNDA provides four main services which have been demoinstrated world-wide to be essential in assisting people live better for longer while fighting MND. We provide:
1. Family support, which incorporates counselling, needs identification, referral to appropriate services, advocacy, training to other service providers and monitoring
2. Information, about the disease, research, living well and mutual support
3. Volunteers, including support groups, respite, friendly visiting, telephone visiting and general office support
4. Equipment, through a comprehensive governmen assisted loans scheme at low or no cost, providing a huge range of aids and equipment used by people with MND.
These services are supported by administration and fundraising.
The Association is managed by a volunteer State Council elected by and from the membership. Six places on the Council are reserved for people with MND, carers, former carers or close associates.
The Association self funds 75% of its budget, and supports over 400 people each year living with MND in Victoria.
