Assistance Dogs Australia is a non-profit organisation that trains Labradors and Golden Retrievers to help enhance the quality of life and improve the level of independence for people with disabilities.

As a result of the program, these highly trained dogs allow recipients to have greater mobility, gain confidence and have higher self-esteem.

A relatively small charity, Assistance Dogs Australia was started in 1996 and has since placed over 350 dogs around Australia. Each dog requires an investment of over $35,000 and they are given free of charge to recipients. Assistance Dogs Australia relies solely on the generosity of the Australia public, corporate and philanthropic sectors

Assistance Dogs Australia has recently been reaccredited by Assistance Dogs International.

Puppies are trained through the assistance of volunteer Puppy Educators or through innovative programs such as our Pups in Prison training programs.

Assistance Dogs Australia originally trained assistance dogs for wheelchair users, but has since introduced the PAWS (Parents Autism Workshop Support) Program, which brings together parents of children with autism, to share experiences and explore the potential that a assistance dog might have within the family.

Assistance dogs are also being trained to help returned servicemen who are living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and in 2016/17 partnered with HammondCare to support couples where one has early onset dementia, so they can stay in their own home through the use of an Assistance Dog.
