NAPCAN works for the prevention of all forms of child abuse - defined as: anything which individuals, institutions or processes do, or fail to do, which directly or indirectly harms children or damages their prospects of a safe and healthy development into adulthood.

We are primarily involved in raising awareness and community education on child abuse and neglect. We have branches in all states and territories as well as regional interest groups.

Run by a national Board of Management and a National Head Office with the assitance of a Professional Advisory Council. We facilitate a national campaign each year dealing with child protection issues.

Child Protection Week starts on father's day every September and provides a common focus for individuals, families and the community to be innovative in raising awareness and developing strategies.

Leading up to this special week we distribute widely communication material, bring in experts from overseas, run parenting education seminars, and seminars for professionals working with children.

We have a strong indigenous program based on traditional culture.
