Legacy
Legacy is a voluntary organisation founded by returned servicemen pledged to care for the dependants of deceased comrades who served Australia in any operational area - those who were killed in action or have since died - from both world wars through Korea, Borneo, Malaya, Vietnam and the various peacekeeping operations.
Legacy also now embraces Defence Force personnel who served in East Timor and the widows and dependants of serving defence force personnel, regulars and reservists, who die on hazardous service or in training accidents such as the Black Hawk helicopter and HMAS WESTRALIA tragedies.
Legacy assists over 122,000 widows and 1,800 children and disabled dependants Australia-wide. The major challenge is the care of widows of advanced years who now need special care and practical assistance in such matters as accommodation, medical, dental, legal and general welfare advice and assistance.
Then there are the children who need support with their education, from primary through to tertiary levels and other special requirements to ensure they receive the opportunities of any normal family.
