Gift of Sight Society
The Ophthalmic Research Institute of Australia ("The ORIA") was founded in 1953 by a group of ophthalmologists concerned with the need to advance eye research in Australia. The ORIA is now the research arm of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.
The Gift of Sight Society was founded in 1994 by The ORIA, in order to help promote public awareness of the need for raising funds for eye research in Australia. The ORIA receives no funding from government sources; private sources and corporate sponsorships provide for all grants.
Once a year, the Gift of Sight Society conducts a fundraising appeal, as well as a raffle. Appeals in the past have raised much-needed funds for research into Age-Related Macular Degeneration and Glaucoma.
