The work of the Sacred Heart Mission began in 1982 in response to the alarming increase in the number of people seeking food, clothing, crisis accommodation and other basic necessities. We now provide a wide range of services to people who lack jobs, family, friends and housing.

The decline in job opportunities and affordable housing, along with the increase in the numbers of people in the community with intellectual disabilities and drug addictions, have created an enormous strain on our capacity to help those in desperate need.

The Sacred Heart Mission helps people of all ages who find themselves on the fringes of society. In all our programs - meals, crisis support, health, employment and training, sport, recreation, home care, housing and other critical services - staff and volunteers provide people with hope and a place to 'belong.'

We help bring dignity and respect into the lives of those who are homeless or living in poverty and work with them to develop their independence.
