The Tasmanian Council on AIDS, Hepatitis and Related Diseases
The Tasmanian Council on AIDS, Hepatitis and Related Diseases (TasCAHRD) is a community based organisation which aims to reduce the risk and incidence of HIV/AIDS,Hepatitis and Related Diseases transmission and to help those affected by HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis and Related Diseases.
TasCAHRD conducts a range of health promotion and harm reduction programs to address key issues and also provides a range of support activities and services for Tasmanians affected by HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis and Related Diseases.
Overcoming discrimination and unfair treatment are also important aspects of the Council's operations.
A fund called The Andrew Shaw Foundation was set up in 1988 to
provide financial support and assistance to those people affected by HIV/AIDS.
TasCAHRD also operates the Nigel Mallett Housing Project which provides affordable housing. The project has four houses around Tasmania that are used to lessen the financial strain on people living with HIV/AIDS.
Annually on World AIDS Day, red ribbons are sold to raise funds for individuals, their familiy's and carers that are affected by HIV/AIDS. In 2001 World AIDS Day is celebrated on December 1st, this year ribbons will be sold both on Friday 29th November and Saturday 1st December.
