Taronga Foundation
The Taronga Foundation has been established to raise funds through sponsorship and philanthropy to support the wildlife conservation and education endeavours of the Taronga Conservation Society Australia(TSCA). The TCSA has developed a twelve year masterplan involving both Taronga and Taronga Western Plains Zoos which is primarily funded by the NSW State Government and 25% funded through the Taronga Foundation. The fund raising target is $56m over twelve years. State Treasury recently announced funding of $236m of the zoos' master plans at Taronga and Taronga Western Plains Zoos. In effect for every $1.00 raised by the Taronga Foundation, State Treasury will provide another $3.00. In excess of $3m has been raised since the Foundation was launched in December, 2000.
The funds raised by the Foundation are used to:
* Enable both zoos to achieve their broader goals in the fields of education and the protection and conservation of wildlife
* Promote the role which Taronga and Taronga Western Plains Zoos play in wildlife conservation
* Improve the exhibits and breeding facilities at both Taronga and Taronga Western Plains Zoos.
The role of the Foundation is to assist the TSCA to develop and maintain its commitment to the conservation of the world's wildlife through the conduct of ongoing research and breeding programmes along with supporting the refurbishment of facilies at both Taronga and Taronga Western Plains Zoos.
