Stewart House is a magical place. It is built on the side of a hill overlooking the beach at South Curl Curl. It has fabulous views of sand and surf, of sky and sea, and even, sometimes, of whales or dolphins at play!

Children come here from many parts of News South Wales and from the ACT, from many walks of life and from many racial backgrounds. They come because they need a break. Some are suffering from ill-health. Some have recently experienced a period of sorrow or loss. And some are victims of poverty or neglect or isolation.

They come together here for a twelve-day stay. They make new friends. There are caring and capable adults to guide them. They join in fascinating new experiences. They are taken on wonderful excursions. Imagine the thrill of a trip to see the beauty of the City lights in the darkness of the early evening!

Yes, they go to school. There is a school here, a school like no other. We do not try to continue their own schools' programs; instead, we provide crafts and activities which are challenging, interesting and different. After school and at weekends there are heaps of fun activities and games. The emphasis is on enjoyment and co-operation.

And when they go home again, it is with wonderful memories and with a new vision and direction for the future. They are full of excitement about all they have seen and done and learnt. They have experienced a healthy life-style. They are more self-confident, with enhanced self-esteem, and so may be better able to cope with the problems they will face as they go through life.

How can all this magic happen in a mere twelve days? How do we know that it does? We know because their parents write and tell us. Because their teachers write and tell us. Because the children themselves write and tell us.

Stewart House receives NO government funding and relies totally on it's own resources to raise the $1.8 million required to remain operational each year.
