Disabled Alternative Road Travel Service
DARTS, The Disabled Alternative Road Travel Service provides a recreational program of day trips, shopping trips, picnics etc for adults with a physical disability or frail aged people who use a wheelchair. The service operates in the 11 Council Areas in northeastern Sydney.
Transport for the program is provided by 3 Toyota Coasters which have each been modified to take 5 wheelchairs. DARTS also organizes volunteer companions/helpers for members who need assistance at a venue.
The organisation has been a Company Limited by Guarantee since April 1982 and has been a registered charity since March 1980. DARTS receives funding from HACC, grants from local Councils and donations and carries out other fund-raising.
