Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland
The Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland (WPSQ) is the oldest, largest and most respected conservation group in Queensland.
WPSQ aims to
- PRESERVE flora and fauna by all lawful means
- EDUCATE all sections of the community in the importance of habitat protection
- ENCOURAGE rational land use while discouraging destruction and exploitation of the natural environment
With over 1000 members and 25 branches WPSQ represents members' interests at local, state and national levels; and is ideally positioned to consult with local councils, educate communities, organise field trips, surveys, social events and tree planting. We are currently involved with the Threatened Species project, and Platypus Care, and have a long history of achievements starting with helping protect the Great Barrier Reef from drilling in the 1960's. We have established a Wildlife Land Fund to acquire valuable habitats. WPSQ also publishes Wildlife Australia a full-colour quarterly magazine focusing on environmental awareness and educational initiatives
