Bereavement Assistance relieves poverty and distress of the underprivileged by providing practical assistance towards a dignified memorial service and cremation where the alternative is a pauper funeral at state expense or a commercial funeral that surviving relatives or friends are unable to afford.

We also provide counsel and advice to bereaved families to assist them to cope with the death of a relative and obtain the full value of any government benefits due to them. We can assist them to negotiate effectively with funeral firms.

Underprivileged means families or friends who are unable to afford a funeral (cremation) of a deceased person. The alternative for these families is to incur long-term debt for the cost of a commercial funeral or the distress and ignominy of pauper funeral at State expense.

We help where the estate of the deceased or the next-of-kin cannot afford the cost of funeral, including �

* Social security recipients;
* Impoverished people with no financial resources (subject to a discreet means test)
* Aboriginal people in indigent circumstances

Regrettably it is not within our charter to fund a commercial funeral where a contract has been signed.
