Australian Volunteers International
Australian Volunteers International is Australia's largest and most experienced international volunteer sending agency. Every year, we recruit, prepare and support hundreds of Australians who volunteer to live, work and learn alongside people of other cultures in developing countries.
We are proud to be part of a network of Australian and global volunteer sending agencies connecting communities and people at home and across the planet.
Our work is aimed at creating a peaceful and just world through greater cross-cultural understanding. It is built on an ethos of partnership, teamwork and consultation.
In the last 50 years we have placed more than 6000 Australian Volunteers in 70 countries in Asia, the Pacific, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.
Australian Volunteers International provides much needed technical support through the assignment of volunteers in direct response to locally identified needs. We are committed to long term development outcomes through sustainable partnerships with host country employers.
Most assignments are for 2 years, allowing time for volunteers to adjust, integrate and contribute to a host community. However, there are a limited number of positions for shorter periods of between one and two years.
For young Australians (age 18+), we also offer shorter-term, team-based opportunities for 8-12 weeks.
We also offer a variety of services that complement and enhance our international volunteer program:
h a staff recruitment service for indigenous communities in Australia
h cross-cultural briefings for Australian and international employers preparing staff for overseas posts
h a speakers bureau for community and corporate groups who want to hear about the unique experiences and benefits of the volunteer program.
Australian Volunteers International is a not for profit organisation, registered as a public company limited by guarantee under the Corporations Act 2001; its Overseas Donation Account is approved under the Overseas Aid Gift Deduction Scheme.
Our major funder is the Australian Government's development cooperation agency, AusAID, and we receive significant financial support from the wider Australian community through fundraising, donations and sponsorships.
Australian Volunteers International is a member of ACFID (Australian Council For International Development - formerly ACFOA), and complies with its Code of Conduct which sets standards in governance, organisational integrity, finances, communication and management practice, and human resources.
