Partners Relief and Development Australia
Methods:
1. Assistance to abused and oppressed children
Full time care for orphans and educational programs for internally
displaced children.
This program has grown to 27 Childrens Programs caring for
Karen children in Thailand, including orphanages, hostels, preschools,
and schools. Approximately 1700 children are cared
for in these locations. Of this total, 19 projects are in 5 refugee
camps, caring for approximately 1240 children and youth. Additionally
5087 children attend schools supported by Partners
inside areas of active conflict inside Burma.
2. Development projects
Agriculture, vocational training, and animal husbandry projects.
Our animal husbandry program has affected 2000 to 3000 people
this year. Small farms run by widows and displaced people
care for 200 pigs and the same amount of goats, in Karen State
as well as in the refugee camps. As a self help program we have
also started a frog farm in conjunction with our discipleship
training school. Our weaving and sewing program continue to
provide sustenance for hundreds of men, women, and children
in the camps and inside Burma. Occasional training courses in
animal husbandry and agriculture are arranged a few times each
year in concert with other missions and organisations.
3. Relief
Medical assistance, food, basic shelter, and survival needs on a
short term basis.
Partners supports 8 clinics inside Karen State in Burma. Each
clinic treats between 4000-7000 civilians each year. Emergency
medical aid and food has been provided during military offensives
providing for approximately 30,000 civilians. Our relief
program has included the support of regular relief missions inside
Burma delivering sustenance, medical aid, and compassion
to Internally Displaced Persons.
4. Leadership Development
Periodic leadership training seminars, pastoral development,
bible school scholarships, and one full time residence Discipleship
Training School.
Currently there are 20 students in our resident Discipleship
Training School. Partners also supports 5 bible schools monthly
and provides scholarships to 55 young refugees to attend bible
school. Approximately 3000 pastors, lay ministers, and leaders
attended leadership and pastoral training this year and Partners
has distributed thousands of bibles, tracts, and manuals for leadership
development.
5. Natural Disaster Response
We respond to the natural disasters. In Indonesia, we provide small business grants, refugee accommodation, feeding programs and medical care in both Banda Aceh and Nias Island.
