Edmund Rice Camps (SA) Inc
Edmund Rice Camps (SA) Inc. is a not for profit organization that has approximately 400 members who volunteer to work with the children & young people who participate on our camps, 9 volunteers comprise the Board & approximately 45 volunteers work on the planning sub-committees, these manage the preparations for the camps under the direction of the Executive Officer. Edmund Rice Camps provide camps and activities for young people and families who require some form of support.
Young people who attend our camps may do so for a number of reasons. These can include, social isolation, difficult family situations, low socio economic backgrounds, difficulties at school, learning difficulties/intellectual disability, they may have challenging behaviours, have difficulty maintaining relationships, or live in foster care.
Socio-economic disadvantage often restricts the access that families and children have to recreational services and social outings. Many of the participants who attend have never experienced a holiday. Thus, the camps aim to provide an enriching recreational experience for all participants and the 1:1 ratio of volunteers to participants ensures that activities are well supervised and that the children receive excellent care and loads of attention.
In 2011, we are offered (subject to gaining the needed funding) 17 camps to a variety of different target groups. It is through these camps that the underprivileged, lonely and suffering young people can experience hope in their lives
